The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced July 30 Rhode Island would be the 13th state to implement a Medicare-Medicaid alignment demonstration. The program would serve an estimated 30,000 duals, fully integrating Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care and behavioral health services through one managed care organization, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.
The demo is technically Phase II of the Rhode Island’s Integrated Care Initiative. Phase I, which integrated Medicaid-only long-term care services under Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island’s Rhody Health Options, began in 2013. The new program will be called Neighborhood INTEGRITY, according to the state of Rhode Island’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin no sooner than Dec. 1, 2015, and conclude Dec. 31, 2018. Check DUAL frequently as more details on the newest demonstration emerge.
