Columbia United Providers (CUP) said it will stop offering any new or renewal individual health plans in the Washington state for 2016. Initially, the insurer was offering five plans on the state’s 2016 individual marketplace.
According to AIS’s Commercial Health Plan Market Metrics, CUP logged only 65 enrollees on Washington’s state-based exchange as of first quarter 2015. CUP says it will continue to honor its Washington policies with effective dates prior to Jan. 1, 2016.
Recently, Molina Healthcare announced plans to buy CUP’s Medicaid business.
CUP’s departure follows a similar move from Moda Health, which pulled its plans from the Washington market one day before 2016 open enrollment began.
