Following the lead of UnitedHealth Group and Aetna Inc., Humana Inc. became the third major insurer to part ways with America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), FierceHealthcare reported Jan. 11. An AHIP spokesperson, confirming Humana’s departure starting in 2018, said the company told the industry lobbying group “that its decision was made for business reasons as opposed to anything related to policy or the direction of the organization.” She added that AHIP remains a strong organization and actually made a net membership gain, adding a dozen new members in 2017. A Humana spokesperson said the company “has not actively participated in AHIP since early 2017.”
